\nThe brain a garden seems, full of delight,<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nWhereon<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> the sun of knowledge shineth bright,
\nWhere fancy flows, and runs in bubbling streams,
\nWhere flowers grow<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> upon the banks of dreams,
\nWhereon the dew of sleepy eyes doth fall,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 5
\nBathing each leaf, and every flower small.
\nThere<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> various thoughts as several flowers grow:
\nSome milk-white innocence, as<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span> lilies, show,
\nFancies, as painted tulips\u2019<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span> colors fixt,
\nBy Nature\u2019s pencil neatly<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span> intermixt;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 10
\nSome as sweet roses, which are newly blown,
\nOthers as tender buds, not yet full<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> grown;
\nSome, as small violets, much<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> sweetness bring.
\nThus many fancies from the brain still spring.
\nTheir wit, as butterflies, hot love<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> do make,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 15
\nOn every flower fine their pleasure take,<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nDancing<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span> about each leaf in pleasant sort,
\nPassing<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span> their time away in amorous sport.
\nLike Cupids young, their painted wings display,
\nAnd with Apollo\u2019s golden beams do<\/span>15<\/sup><\/a><\/span> play.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 20
\nIndustrious pains<\/span>16<\/sup><\/a><\/span>, as<\/span>17<\/sup><\/a><\/span> bees, suck out the sweet,
\nWax of invention gather<\/span>18<\/sup><\/a><\/span> with their feet.
\nThen on the<\/span>19<\/sup><\/a><\/span> wings of fame fly to their hive,
\nWhich from the wint\u2019r of<\/span>20<\/sup><\/a><\/span> death keeps them alive.
\nThere birds of poetry sweet notes still sing,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 25
\nWhich through the world, as through the air, do<\/span>21<\/sup><\/a><\/span> ring,
\nAnd on the branches of delight they<\/span>22<\/sup><\/a><\/span> sit,
\nPruning their wings, which are with study wet,
\nThen to the cedars of high honor fly,
