The yellow-bearded<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> corn bows down each head,
\nLike gluttons when their stomach\u2019s overfed.
\nOr like to<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> those whose wealth makes<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> heavy cares,
\nSo doth the full-ripe corn hang<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> down their ears.
\nFor<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span> plenty makes oppression, gives small ease, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 5
\nAnd superfluity is a disease.
\nYet all that Nature makes doth still aspire<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nForward to get, never doth back retire,<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nUntil the scythe<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> of Death doth lay them low
\nUpon the Earth, from whence they first did<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> grow.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 10
\nThen who would hoard up wealth, and take such pains,
\nSince nothing but the Earth has<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> all the gains?
\nNo riches are, but what i\u2019th\u2019mind is found;<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nThey are but<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span> poor, who seek them under ground.<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nFor Time, that feeds on life, makes all things fall, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 15
\nIs never satisfied, but<\/span>15<\/sup><\/a><\/span> eats up all.
\nThen let the minds of men in peace take<\/span>16<\/sup><\/a><\/span> rest,
\nAnd count a moderation still the best,
\nAnd grumble not, nor<\/span>17<\/sup><\/a><\/span> covet Nature\u2019s store\u2014
\nFor those that are content can ne\u2019er be poor\u2014 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 20
