Mark but the little ant, how she doth run,
\nIn what a busy motion she goes<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> on,
\nAs if she ordered all the world\u2019s affairs,
\nWhen \u2019tis but only one small straw she bears.
\nBut when they find a fly, which on the ground lies<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> dead, \u00a0 5
\nLord,<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> how they stir!<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span> So<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> full is every head.<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nSome with their feet and mouths draw it along,<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nOthers, their tails and shoulders thrust it on.<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nAnd if a stranger ant comes on that way,
\nShe helps them straight, ne\u2019er asketh if she may,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 10
\nNor stays to have<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> rewards, but is well pleased;
\nThus pays herself with her own pains, their ease.<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nThey live as the Lacedemonians did,
\nAll is in<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> common; nothing is forbid.
\nNo private feast, but altogether meet, \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 15

\nThey have no envy; all ambition\u2019s down;

\nAll help to build, and keep it in repair;

\nNo markets keep,<\/span>18<\/sup><\/a><\/span> no meat have they<\/span>19<\/sup><\/a><\/span> to sell,
\nFor what each eats,<\/span>20<\/sup><\/a><\/span> all welcome are,<\/span>21<\/sup><\/a><\/span> and well.

\nWithout offense, which never breedeth strife.

\nTheir greatest honor is to live, not die.
