When with returning thoughts I do<\/span>1<\/sup><\/a><\/span> behold
\nMyself, I find all creatures<\/span>2<\/sup><\/a><\/span> of that mould,
\nAnd for the mind, which some say is like gods,
\nI do not find \u2019twixt man and beast such odds.
\nOnly the shape of man<\/span>3<\/sup><\/a><\/span> is fit for use,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 5
\nWhich makes him seem much wiser than a goose.
\nFor had a goose (which seems of simple kind)<\/span>4<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nA shape to form and fit things to her<\/span>5<\/sup><\/a><\/span> mind,
\nTo make such creatures as her would<\/span>6<\/sup><\/a><\/span> obey,
\nCould hunt and shoot those that would \u2019scape away,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 10
\nAs wise would<\/span>7<\/sup><\/a><\/span> seem as man, be as much feared,
\nAs<\/span>8<\/sup><\/a><\/span> when the goose comes near the man be scared.
\nWho knows but beasts may wiser than men be?
\nWe no such errors or mistakes can see.
\nLike quiet men they do enjoy their<\/span>9<\/sup><\/a><\/span> rest;\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 15
\nTo eat and drink in peace, they think it best.
\nTheir food is all they seek, the rest think vain
\nIf not unto<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> eternity remain.
\nDespise not beasts,<\/span>11<\/sup><\/a><\/span> nor yet be proud of art,
\nBut Nature thank for forming so each part.\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 20
\nAnd since all knowledge by your form you gain,<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nThen let not pride above your reason reign.<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nFor if that<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span> motion in your brain works best,
\nDespise not beast \u2019cause motion is<\/span>15<\/sup><\/a><\/span> depressed.
\nNor boast<\/span>16<\/sup><\/a><\/span> of speech \u2019cause reason it<\/span>17<\/sup><\/a><\/span> can show,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 25
\nFor beasts<\/span>18<\/sup><\/a><\/span> hath reason too for aught<\/span>19<\/sup><\/a><\/span> we know.
\nShape doth inform the mind of what we<\/span>20<\/sup><\/a><\/span> find,
