\nAnd on the boughs would gossip, prate, and chat,
\nAnd every one discourse of this and that.
\n\u201cI,\u201d said the Lark, \u201cbefore the sun do rise,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 5
\nAnd take my flight up to the highest skies,
\nThere sing some notes, to raise Apollo\u2019s head,

\nBut that I in a good warm house do fly,
\nAnd there do pick up crumbs, which make me fat,
\nBut oft I\u2019m<\/span>10<\/sup><\/a><\/span> scared away with the puss-cat.
\nIf they molest me not, then I grow bold,

\nMan superstitiously dares not hurt me,

The Sparrow said, \u201cWould our case were no worse,<\/span>12<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nBut men do with their nets us take by force.<\/span>13<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nWith guns and bows they shoot us from the trees,\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0 \u00a0\u00a0\u00a0 35
\nAnd by small shot, we oft our lives do leese
\nBecause we pick a cherry here and there,
\nWhen God knows we do eat them in great fear.<\/span>14<\/sup><\/a><\/span>
\nBut men will eat until their bellies<\/span>15<\/sup><\/a><\/span> burst,

\nFor eating overmuch themselves they kill.

\nFor they our tongues do slit, their words to learn,

\nAre taught new tunes, and have good store of meat.
